Target

knowledge (but no illiterates), especially:
· Unemployed young people (until an age of 25 years)
without vocational qualification.

to express their desires, needs and meanings and to understand
the others' desires, needs and meanings.
The participants (normally in an age between 20 and 25
years) have the following origin:
·
28% from the ex-Soviet Union

Description
of the problem: |
|
The
decisive obstacles of the target group concerning the
integration into the labour market are the lack of language
knowledge and a low level of qualification. But an adequate
German knowledge is necessary to be able to follow the
contents of training and qualification measures, and as
well to improve the possibilities to get a job or to work
self-employed.
Moreover, the participants have deficits in the application
of calculation and the knowledge about how to use information
technology. Qualifications in this ranges are more and
more a basic condition for the integration into the labour
market.

Description
of the solution: |
|
|
Before
the start of the course the participants have to take part
in an examination about the German language. The result
decides, in which group level they can take part.
75% of the course is dedicated to the German language and
25% to commercial calculation and EDP-basics. With these
contents the course starts directly its activities, where
the decisive obstacles are and which prevent the integration
into the labour market.
At the end of the course the participants get a written
judgement about their performances in the single modules
and about their learning behaviour.
Additionally it's offered a continuing psychosocial advice,
for a necessary and individual attention to the life situation
of the participants.

The project started in March 2000 and finishes in July 2003.
There are 12 courses every year. Every course lasts 40 hours
per week.
In
the years 2000 and 2001 there were 278 participants, who
had finished the courses. Their whereabouts can be summarized
in the following way:
· 41% got a job or a vocational training place
· 18% started a professional qualification or a professional
preparation
· 19% started a further education in school or a
university career
· 5% took part in following language courses
· 17% had no clear employment desires, or they had
no sufficient language knowledge, or were in infant care
leave etc.
